Review:
The Story Concerns an elderly man (Garner as Old Noah Calhoun) who reads from an old faded notebook to his wife that is suffering Alzheimer’s (Gena Rowland as Old Allie Calhoun) This story is being read to Allie from her husband Noah but she cannot remember any of the story he is telling and she didn’t even recognized him.
As he repeats the romantic story from the old diary, the time takes us back to a quiet town and the beginnings of true love between the young couple. They met each other at the carnival and Noah takes Allie to an abandoned house, which he explains that he intends to buy this house for their future. At that house she receives a message that her family are looking out for her. She went back home and her family banned her from seeing Noah because they said he is “trash, trash, trash not for you”. They had to break up. Noah enlists to fight in World War || with his friend Fin which died in the war.
Allie becomes a volunteer in a hospital for wounded soldiers and she meets Lon Hammond (James Marsden) and she gets engaged to this handsome, sophisticated and charming man. Allie sees Noah’s shocked and hurt when Lon asks her to marry him. She hears that Noah arranged the abounded house and she decides to go and visit him in Seabrook. From Lon and Noah Allie chooses Noah.
Elderly Allie suddenly remembers her past, after finding out about her illness, she herself wrote their story in the Notebook with the instructions for Noah to “read this to me, and I’ll come back to you”. Noah has a heart attack and Allie is seen alone for a time. As soon as he recovers Noah goes back near Allie and she started to question him. She asked him what will happen to them when she will not be able to remember anything anymore, and he reassures her that he will never ever leave her. She also asked him if he thinks their strong and mutual romantic love for each other is strong enough to “take them away together”. He replies that he thinks their strong romance could do anything. They loved each other and fell asleep in Allies hospital bed. The next morning, Nurse Esther finds them dead both in each other’s arms.
